The Topic

“Baxu and the Giants” is a 30-minute film directed by Florian Schott. It was commissioned by the Legal Assistance Centre Namibia to reach an audience worldwide and bring awareness to the issue of poaching and underlying social issues in rural Namibia.

“Baxu and the Giants” is a story of a 9-year-old girl, living in rural Damaraland with her brother and grandmother. In fact, the name Baxu is short for “!Khubaxu”, which means “I come from the soil”. She is fascinated by nature and the giants of the Savannah, the rhinos that she talks to in her dreams. She lives a peaceful life until strange men show up and cause change in the village.
