The Topic
The first forefather of the Namibian von Wietersheim family was sent to the then German South-West-Africa as a member of the colonial armed forces in 1904 and established the family, now living in Namibia in fifth generation, in 1913.
The talk narrates the history of the country interwoven with the stories of the consecutive generations of the family – from colonial times to the present. It covers the participation in the colonial war, the consequences of the South African rule for the German-speaking citizens, and the various efforts towards liberation, up to the participation in determining the future of independent Namibia as well as in the new Namibian government.
Finally, a glance is cast towards the younger generations and their future.
